I started writing about pet rent after years of having the same conversations with renters who were frustrated or confused by extra pet charges. In almost every building I worked in, the rules were different, and most of them weren’t clearly explained to tenants.
Over time, I kept notes on the patterns I saw—what landlords actually care about, what tenants usually misunderstand, and how pet fees are structured behind the scenes. That’s what I use when I write here.
Most of the ideas come from real lease signings, move-in inspections, and conversations at the front desk. People would ask the same questions in different ways, and I started turning those answers into something others could read before they walk into the same situation.
I’m not writing from an office far removed from it all. This is just what I picked up while being in the middle of it every day.
